Over engineered Bracket

What do you do when a $0.05 part breaks on your IKEA coffee table? Order a new one, right? Of course not! You learn how to use your favorite CAD software’s topology optimization package! The algorithm that is used by most of the CAD packages is called SIMP. The important thing to know is that…

First CNC project

First project! A little shuttle-inspired spaceship carved from pine. CAD I whipped it up in Fusion 360 with the sub-d modeling environment. CAM I used Fusion’s built-in CAM package. Cutting Result

3d printed airplanes

I printed a batch of airplanes for co-workers. I spent a while trying to optimize the size without increasing printing time too much. Eventually I pitched it up 15 degrees and turned it diagonally. Here’s an earlier slice:

Dice shrine

I build some dice holders to improve my DnD game. I’d been making some bad rolls so I built these devices to give my D20s positive or negative feedback. The dice shrine I did the modeling in Fusion 360. The D20 was done using patched sketches. The holder was done with the sub-d sculpting enviornment…

Epoxy drip catchers

I had a problem with resin and hardener dripping onto my workbench I solved it with an overengineered dripcatcher

Garage shop

Over quarantine I’ve gotten into woodworking and built up a garage workshop. Shout out to Steve Ramsay’s youtube series on woodworking. I already had a nice little workbench I used for modelmaking and painting, and odd jobs: Now I have another workbench and a toolbench, as well as some important tools like table saw and…

Bowling pajama micarta

my bowling pajamas I had a pair of bowling pajamas that were beloved to me. This is me the morning of my Google interview. Well pajamas finally had too many holes in them. They would rip when I stood up. I decided it was time for them to move on to a different use. micarta…

Sculptures

I’ve been doing a series of sculptures. Originally the motivation was to build a webcam holder so that I could monitor 3d prints: The second one was more organic and had mostly parametric features with one sculpted feature: The next one was almost fully sculpted. A mechanical engineer at work asked if it was the…

mini paint holder

This was purely a CAD challenge to myself. It is an efficient way to store paint, but not an efficient use of time.

Arsch mit ohren

There is a German expression “Arsh mit Ohren” which means “ass with ears”. I suppose it roughtly maps to “butthead”. Anyways I got my hands on a 3d printer for the first time and for some reason decided that this was the thing to print. I found the model on Thingiverse. Mk2 I eventually upgraded…

Succulent camo dinosaur

I’m really proud of this airbrush project. First time using masking (for the stripes) Rough draft:

Snowspeeder
