Bowling pajama micarta

my bowling pajamas

I had a pair of bowling pajamas that were beloved to me. This is me the morning of my Google interview.

I wore this to the interview, and yes I got the offer. I left the ball at home.

Well pajamas finally had too many holes in them. They would rip when I stood up. I decided it was time for them to move on to a different use.

micarta

Inspired by youtuber Peter brown, I decided to turn them into micarta. This is a substance made by laminating paper with epoxy. It’s often used in knife handles, I think because it’s grippy when wet.

I cut them into pieces and tried to line up the pattern.

I don’t have any picture of pouring the epoxy. I had to draft my wife to help me, and it was a sticky job. Here is right after I removed them from the mold. You should not use wood chisels for this sort of thing.

Here is the raw product

I was very excited and had myself a little photoshoot

future

I planned to use them to make knife handles for a bowling knife. What is a bowling knife? This is a bowling knife:

Unfortunately the bowling knife project was too ambitious and is currently on the backburner.
